Cisneros was founded in Venezuela in 1929 by Diego Cisneros. What began as a transport business soon diversified into other businesses, including television with the launch of the Venevision television channel in 1961. Gustavo Cisneros followed his father’s footsteps. He became CEO in 1968 and expanded into the areas of production and distribution. He acquired the Miss Universe pageant and became a founding member of Univision, thus centering the group’s focus on the Hispanic population in the United States and Latin America.
In 2013, Adriana Cisneros took on the role of CEO and restructured the company into three divisions: Cisneros Media, which includes free-to-air and pay television, content production and distribution; Cisneros Interactive, made up of digital publicity, e-commerce and games; and Cisneros Real Estate.
Adriana and Gustavo Cisneros will receive the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award at NATPE. They spoke on TV Latina about their vision of a family business in this ever changing media panorama.
